Today at school we began an real life simulation called "Every 15 Minutes." It relates to the actions and reactions of drunk driving. Sitting in class, a police officer will enter. "I have some news regarding your class mate, (name here), and the speech goes on from there. It's very sad though some students almost burst out laughing. I personally find that irreverent, rude, an immature. As the officer gives the speech, Death stands outside the door. The speech will end, a picture of the student will be placed at the front of the room, a student will be escorted out of the classroom and a carnation will be placed on the students desk. The student that was taken out of my Sociology class looked like see was gonna cry. That was unsettling for me. The funeral stuff tomorrow is gonna hit me more than anything so far.
The big part of the simulation was during 5th. period. Two cars had collided head on also killing a bystander. In one of the cars were two students. Passenger went through the wind shield and the driver seemed OK. In the other car was a girl who seemed disoriented. Three students lay on the grass bloody with glass stuck in parts of them. The ambulances, fire trucks, and cop cars arrived to the scene. I believe that two of the students were dead, three were rushed to the hospital, and the last was arrested (after various tests) for having "a few beers." The students who were pulled out of class boldly stood in the background in all black, gray make up, and holding a photo of themselves. Death stood along side them. It wasn't part of the simulation but a few dead students passed out. Probably a mixture of being in the sun and emotional strain.
I believe that this simulation might open the eyes of many students. I hope it does, It opens my eyes to the dangers of being on the road. Like me, even if you don't drink, their are people on the road who do. It is illegal but it doesn't stop people from drinking and driving. Please don't do it yourself. It's also consideration towards others. Don't risk their lives because you decide to make a bad choice. The simulation will continue tomorrow bringing more to the story. I listed the website below.
